Marisa Lombardo asks “ARE WE CONSUMED BY THE NEW?”
Marisa has kept a very small toolbox and has worked on minimally affecting the environment by discovering the beauty in re-purposed metals, antiques, stones and fabrics.
She attended Rome’s School of Art in 1998, lived in a tiny studio and with limited resources and limited materials she began re-thinking that with is discarded. The journey of neglecting the new and opting for the old, putting constraints on what she created by what was available, not a supply and demand philosophy.
Each piece of jewelry and garment of clothing is one of a kind and each has it’s own story. She’s travelled the markets and estate sales from Rome to the far most corners of upstate New York and many in between to find treasures that speak to her, that have provenance and those that don’t. She breathes new life into them so as to continue their story.
