Bus Stop Boutique: Best shoes in Philly by Emily

Recognizing a shortage of decent footwear shopping choices in Philadelphia, Elena Brennan opened Bus Stop Boutique on Fabric Row as a way to provide shoe-inclined females with alternatives to mass-produced chain store options.

“Every time I’d travel, I’d buy shoes, but when I’d go shopping for shoes in Philadelphia, I’d get frustrated,” explains Elena. “So I thought, wouldn’t it be great to bring the shoes to Philly?”

Within Bus Stop Boutique’s stark interior, you’ll find well-made, unique, shoes in styles on the edgier side. British designer Marcello Toshi’s shoes are standouts - sexy, red suede heels with tulip edging that hugs your ankle and multi-colored t-straps heels. The signature styles from DusicaDusica, a Serbian brand made in Italy, pay significant attention to the smallest details of each shoe from the sole to the stitching. United Nude heels and ankle boots are architectural and sleek. And Irregular Choice is the playful and more reasonably priced choice if you’re looking to branch out into crazier colors or wilder patterns without the commitment.

Whereas some of the shoes at Bus Stop aren’t for every day use, many are on the practical side as well. Terra Plana’s pumps, flats, and riding boots are functional, stylish and eco-friendly, using chrome-free leather, vegetable dyes, and recycled materials wherever possible. Bolo’s comfortable and classically styled sling-back wedges and high-heeled Mary Jane’s are customer favorites. And Repetto makes adorable suede flats that you could wear day or night. While you’ll find shoes upwards of $400 at Bus Stop, pairs for just under the $100 mark are available as well.
In addition to shoes, Bus Stop Boutique also carries accessories; buttery leather slouchy bags from Brazilian designers, DAUTORE, and tailored leather satchels from local designer, NK Henry, along with jewelry from Zivile Pupinyte and cozy, ecologically-friendly neck wraps hand knit by Sheroder-Falzone.

While the boutique is stocked with international goodies, Bus Stop also hosts frequent events to promote local designers, artists and musicians. Be sure to contact the shop for a schedule of events.
